Field Bean Curry: (Avarekaii Curry)


Bangalore's winter and the hot aromatic Avarekaii Curry are synonymous . If you are a self-confessed foodie, who 'lives to eat' then, here goes a delicious recipe ....get cooking if you have access to these beans(fresh or dried) and enjoy the Aroma of Avarekaii Curry!








preparation:

To start with soak the Avarekai Bean in water for 4-5 hrs to dehusk the bean to get set to make this tasty curry.



Ingredients :

4 cups of dehusked Avarekaii,
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp mustard
4-5 pepper corns
2tsp sambar powder
1 tbsp coconut paste
2 tsp Raw Rice(Toasted)
1 small onion sliced
3 Tomatoes
1 tsp khus-khus
1/2 tsp turmeric
2 sprigs of curry leaves,

Method:

Pressure cook the dehusked Avarekaii with salt. grind the following to a smooth paste : Coconut, Cumin, khus-khus, pepper corns,Toasted raw rice and Sambar powder . Add this paste to the Pre-cooked Avarekai along with Tomatoes and Season with Mustard, Asafoetida, Curry leaves and sliced onions (saute'd till brown) . The curry is Ready for a weekend gorging with Rice, chappathi & idli
