Moghalai Masala Kichidi !

1 Cup Rice
1/2 Cup Green gram
1 big onion, chopped
2 Potatoes cubed
3 Green chillies
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
2 sprigs of curry leaves
10-12 Almonds
1/2 tsp cumin
2 cloves
2 cardamoms
1 tsp crushed pepper corns
1" cinnamon stick
1 bay leaf
2 tbsp butter
Salt to taste


Soak the Rice and green gram .Powder all the spices, except the bay leaf. prepare a coarse paste of onion, chillies, ginger and garlic and keep aside. Heat the ghee in a pan and add the onion paste and bay leaf and fry till they are brown. Add the spices powder,crushed pepper corns, curry leaves and mix. To this, add 3 cups of water and bring to a boil. Add the soaked rice and green gram and potatoes. Add salt and cook till done. Garnish with Almonds sauted in butter. The Kichidi is ready to serve with coconut scrapings(optional).
